Observations of Startup Weekend Melbourne So Far
Guest post by one of our mentors here at Startup Weekend, Josh Blandy.
The spirit of Startup Weekend is amazing to see. Fresh from last night’s pitch fest, it’s great to see many great and interesting ideas attracting committed teams.
In terms of ideas, this time we seem to have a lot of multi sided marketplaces from natural farm produce, walls and dead urban space needing art and rejuvenation, with fewer direct tech or product opportunities.
Key challenges for most teams on day one relate to putting some business model structure around the big idea and really focussing on:
- Customer and user segments
- Value propositions versus revenue models
- Key activities the business will actually do
to ensure they can produce a focussed pitch and awesome MVP demo.
Can’t wait to see where we get to tomorrow!
Great number of pitches we saw last night.
We had a great deal of pitches last night here is the list pitches that were done. Congrats to those that have been selected to move on to build teams. For those that have not been selected keep pushing on and make the necessary pivots to form great products. Good luck to all.
